Pacific-View Bifold System — Bakersfield California Coastal Villa

A 4,200 sqft coastal retreat opens fully to the Pacific with a 14-panel bifold system engineered for salt exposure and California building code.

Pacific-View Bifold System — Bakersfield California Coastal Villa

The Challenge

The client wanted uninterrupted ocean views without compromising thermal performance or hurricane resistance. Standard bifold systems from local suppliers either failed the coastal salt-fog test at 10 years, or were too thermally leaky for their Title 24 energy target.

The Solution

We specified our 68mm Thermal-Break Bifold Door with genuine Kerssenberg German hardware, bronze anodized to 25-micron marine grade for salt-fog resistance. Each panel was manufactured to 43 inches maximum width — the panel-count optimized for the exact opening span. Double hook-lock security kept insurance underwriters happy, while anti-pinch design between panels solved child-safety concerns from the family.

Key Product Features

  • Full-height 2.7m panels stack to <35cm depth when open
  • Upper lifting + lower bearing wheel = smooth operation across 14 panels
  • Anti-pinch design between panels (child-safe)
  • Double hook lock security system
  • Bronze anodized 25μm marine-grade finish resists Pacific salt-fog
  • PA66 thermal break polyamide strip meets California Title 24

Architect's Recommendation: For coastal California projects, we recommend our 68mm bifold over the slimmer 16-narrow because you'll need the extra profile depth for both thermal break and the Kerssenberg heavy-duty hinges. Homeowners often ask about 80mm — that's overkill for a residential span under 8 meters. Stay with 68mm.

"The 14-panel bifold transformed how we live. Morning coffee, evening dinner — we open the entire wall and the deck becomes the living room. Three years in, the bronze finish still looks new."
